Red Crow Community College is seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and strategic professional to serve as Research Administrator at the Main Campus in Standoff, Alberta. Reporting within the College’s leadership structure, the Research Administrator provides senior-level operational leadership, administrative oversight, and strategic coordination for the Mokakssin Research Centre. The Research Administrator is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of research activities that support faculty, staff, students, and community partners. The role requires a high degree of leadership, relationship management, organizational effectiveness, and sound judgment, with a strong commitment to Indigenous research methodologies, Blackfoot protocols, and community-based approaches to research.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and operational oversight for the Mokakssin Research Center, including planning, priority setting, and continuous improvement of research operations.
• Oversee the coordination and administration of research projects, ensuring alignment with College priorities, funding requirements, ethical standards, and community expectations.
• Manage the full lifecycle of grants and research projects, including proposal development, post-award administration, compliance monitoring, reporting, and project close-out.
• Supervise and support student researchers and research support personnel, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and workflow coordination.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and administrative systems to support effective research governance, records management, and reporting.
• Work closely with Finance and internal departments to develop and monitor research budgets, funding proposals, and reporting requirements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, Elders, community members, funders, and external partners to support collaborative research initiatives.
• Provide guidance on research administration, ethics, Indigenous research methodologies, and Blackfoot cultural protocols.
• Lead and support the operations of the Research Ethics Committee, including membership, meetings, documentation, and review processes.
• Coordinate workshops and training opportunities to strengthen research knowledge and capacity among students, staff, and community members.
• Prepare reports, briefing materials, and correspondence related to research activities, partnerships, and funding requirements.
• Represent the Mokakssin Research Center and the College in meetings and partnership discussions with external stakeholders and funders.
• Perform other related duties in support of the College’s research mandate.
Qualifications
• A Master’s degree in a related discipline is required.
• A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, research management, or a related post-secondary or community-based research environment is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing research projects, grants, budgets, reporting, and compliance processes.
• Strong knowledge of research ethics, Indigenous research methodologies, and community-based research practices.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of Blackfoot culture, protocols, and ways of knowing; working knowledge of the Blackfoot language is a strong asset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and research administration or project management systems is preferred
